Guy Mailhot is also a fellow of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (FCSCE) and Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada (FEIC).
Guy worked as consulting engineer for firms in Vancouver and Montreal for the first 15 years of his career.
Employed by The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Inc. (JCCBI) a Canadian Crown Corporation since 1999, Guy was on loan to Infrastructure Canada since 2012 holding the position of Chief Engineer – Samuel De Champlain Bridge Corridor.
Guy’s career has focused on the design, inspection, evaluation and rehabilitation of bridges. For over 30 years, he has contributed to the inspection and major rehabilitation of several of Montreal’s most important bridges, including the original Champlain Bridge, the Jacques Cartier Bridge and the Honoré-Mercier Bridge as both consultant and owner.
Twelve of the last fourteen years of his career were devoted entirely to the Samuel De Champlain Bridge. He has contributed to all phases of this project’s delivery, including prefeasibility studies, preliminary engineering, the development of procurement documentation, the RFQ and RFP phases, the design-build phase as well as the design and construction work to incorporate a light-rail transit system on the bridge and the operations and maintenance phase.
Guy has been an invited speaker to several technical conferences and has published over 25 technical papers helping to disseminate his knowledge and experience in the field of bridges.
He is the recipient of the 1992 C.W. Gilchrist Award from the Transportation Association of Canada (TAC), an ACI-CCA Award of Merit from the American Concrete Institute-Cement Association of Canada in 2002 for his contributions to the Design-Build deck replacement of the Jacques Cartier Bridge and is also the recipient of the 2010 CSCE P.L. Pratley Award. In 2025 he was a recipient of a King-Charles III Coronation Medal honouring his engagement and leadership in connection with important infrastructure projects.
