Jacques Cartier Bridge – Biodiversity

Spring 2026 marked another milestone for the wildlife inhabiting our structures. Three peregrine falcon chicks hatched at the end of May in the nest box installed on Pier 25 of the Jacques Cartier Bridge.

The three nestlings are the 49th, 50th and 51st peregrine falcons born on our infrastructures. Just a few weeks after hatching, they left the nest box to take their first flights and begin exploring their surroundings.

A Remarkable Journey

One of the young falcons was recently observed beneath the Jacques Cartier Bridge, cooling off in a nearby stream. The sight highlights the remarkable progress made since its earliest days in the nest box. Thanks to banding conducted by an avian wildlife expert, it was possible to confirm that the bird was one of the three falcon chicks born this spring.

A Commitment to Biodiversity

The continued presence of peregrine falcons at the Jacques Cartier Bridge underscores the importance of urban nesting habitats and the efforts made to foster coexistence between infrastructure and wildlife. Banding the falcon chicks is also a tangible contribution to biodiversity conservation, as it helps monitor the development and movements of peregrine falcon populations.
