Ongoing and upcoming work

$1 billion invested over 25 years

Since JCCBI took responsibility for managing and maintaining the structure of the Québec Bridge in 2024, several projects have been undertaken or completed. More work is being planned over the next years, as part of the bridge’s rehabilitation plan.

Meanwhile, JCCBI is conducting a thorough inspection of the entire structure to obtain a complete picture of the bridge’s condition. This will make it possible to optimize work plans.

Work in progress
  • Reinforcement of steel components, surface preparation, cleaning and painting of bracing on the cantilever span over the St. Lawrence River, at the Lévis end of the bridge
  • Similar work on the portal bracing, also at the Lévis end of the bridge
Noise associated with ongoing work

At times, some of the work carried out in spring 2026 may generate noise. JCCBI is implementing rigorous noise management measures to limit impacts on quality of life for nearby residents and to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

Depending on the situation, these measures may include:

  • planning work in such a way as to reduce the duration and intensity of noisier activities;
  • taking sound measurements during noisier activities and making adjustments as required;
  • where possible, scheduling noisy work during daytime hours.
Completed work
  • Sandblasting, replacement of damaged or corroded steel parts and painting, between the 2nd pier and the south shore of the St. Lawrence River

Inspections
  • Inch-by-inch examination of the bridge’s structure by rope access engineers
    • 56% completed
    • 44% remaining
  • Installation of sensors to monitor structural behaviour
  • Load-carrying capacity assessment and wind tunnel testing with a view to optimizing the structure’s safety and performance
