Evaluation of the Performance of CFRP Reinforcements and Development of a Model to Predict their Lifetime

This research project aims to assess the performance of elements of the original Champlain Bridge strengthened using carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) during the bridge’s activity period. This project will also establish a relationship between the level of degradation and the strengthening lifetime. The results of this work can serve the JCCBI in strategic planning for rehabilitation works of other infrastructures within a sustainable development approach.

OBJECTIVES

  • Evaluate the performance of the CFRP strengthening technique in terms of capacities, deformations, and lifespan

  • Evaluate the quality of adhesion and calculate the resistance to static ultimate adhesion

  • Assess the effect of environmental conditions on the long-term performance of the CFRP reinforcing technique

  • Verify the precision level of design equations in CSA and ACI standards and suggest improvements

  • 40 months (the project started on February 14, 2020)
