Ongoing and upcoming work

The Bonaventure Expressway is being reconfigured for the benefit of the community. While the expressway is being turned into a boulevard, work will also be done in three adjacent sectors to preserve and uphold the safety of infrastructure in this area.

Bonaventure reconfiguration

The section of roadway that will be reconfigured into a boulevard extends from the intersection of the Bonaventure Expressway with Pierre Dupuy Avenue to the intersection of Marc Cantin Street with Gaétan-Laberge Boulevard.

Work description
  • Work duration: September 2025 to 2029.
  • The project will involve the removal of Carrie Derick Street, to the north, which runs alongside the business park, to accommodate the relocated lanes.
  • Moving traffic lanes away from the shore of the St. Lawrence River will open up a vast space for the creation of an 80,000 m2 green corridor along the river’s edge, complete with active mobility paths.
  • This approach will also make it possible to maintain traffic flow by retaining three lanes in each direction.
Entraves à la circulation pour l'année 2025

Bonaventure Expressway:

  • 2 out of 3 lanes open toward Samuel De Champlain Bridge
  • 3 lanes open toward downtown

Gaétan Laberge Boulevard:

Carrie-Derick Street

  • Closed to traffic and accessible only to local businesses.

Elevated lanes sector

The federal section of the Bonaventure Expressway’s elevated lanes extends from the Victoria Bridge to the Peel Basin. The section from the Peel Basin to Wellington Street is managed by the City of Montréal.

Work description
  • The work consists of repairing the concrete slab on a portion of the deck and adding a higher-performance waterproofing membrane.
  • To improve the structure’s service life, the mini-pier caps will also be removed and replaced with systems that are more effective and easier to maintain.
  • Note: workers carry out most of the work underneath the roadway.
Impact on traffic in 2025
  • Two traffic lanes available at all times in both directions.

Clément Bridge sector

The Samuel De Champlain Bridge (Hwy. 15 South) and the northern point of Île des Sœurs are linked to the Bonaventure Expressway through road structures that include the Clément Bridge. This bridge spans a branch of the St. Lawrence River at the northern point of Île des Sœurs to then meet up with the Bonaventure Expressway. Built in 1966, this aging infrastructure requires work to remain functional.

Work description
  • The girders of the Clément Bridge will be repaired, and the bridge’s drainage system will be cleaned.
  • The road surface will also be levelled and paved.
  • Work will be done on the approach lanes to repair the concrete surfaces, replace bearings, touch up paint, and improve the drainage system.
  • The overhead signage and streetlights in this sector will also be replaced.
  • Note: workers carry out most of the work underneath the roadway.
Impact on traffic in 2025
  • One lane in each direction open on the Clément Bridge for the duration of the work.
  • Access from the northern point of Île des Soeurs to the Bonaventure Expy. toward downtown will be closed as of September 2025. The detour will be via Gaétan-Laberge boulevard.
