Original Champlain Bridge deconstruction

Several communications activities are initiated during the Champlain Bridge deconstruction project, which will take place until 2024.

JCCBI hold public information meetings to inform residents of Brossard and L’Île-des-Sœurs about the:

  • Nature of the work;
  • Work timetable;
  • Mitigation measures for managing noise levels, air quality and traffic during the work.

Public meetings

May 17, 2023 : île des Sœurs and Brossard

JCCBI held on May 17, 2023, the first virtual public meeting with the citizens of île des Soeurs and Brossard regarding the Héritage Champlain project.

This meeting allowed participants to learn more about the redevelopment concepts for the île des Soeurs, St. Lawrence Seaway Dike and Brossard sectors.

September 19, 2022: Île des Sœurs and Brossard

On September 19, 2022, JCCBI and Nouvel Horizon Saint-Laurent (NHSL) Corporation had their fifth public meeting with the residents of Île des Soeurs and Brossard, which was held virtually.

This meeting was a chance for everyone to discuss the upcoming major work blitzes in Brossard and the mitigation measures put in place during these blitzes as well as the redevelopment of the shoreline once the deconstruction is complete.

May 10, 2022: Île des Sœurs and Brossard

On May 10, 2022, JCCBI and Nouvel Horizon Saint-Laurent (NHSL) Corporation had their fourth public meeting with the residents of Île des Soeurs and Brossard, which was held virtually due to the pandemic. 

This meeting was a chance for everyone to discuss the upcoming work as well as the redevelopment of the shoreline and Champlain Bridge Estacade once the deconstruction is complete.

December 6, 2021: Île des Sœurs and Brossard

On December 6, 2021, JCCBI and Nouvel Horizon Saint-Laurent (NHSL) Corporation had their third public meeting with the residents of Île des Soeurs and Brossard, which was held virtually due to the pandemic. 

This meeting was a chance for everyone to discuss the upcoming work as well as the redevelopment of the shoreline and Champlain Bridge Estacade once the deconstruction is complete.

June 2, 2021: Île des Sœurs and Brossard

On June 2, 2021, JCCBI and Nouvel Horizon Saint-Laurent (NHSL) Corporation had their second public meeting with the residents of Île des Soeurs and Brossard, which was held virtually due to the pandemic.  

Over 40 people attended the presentation and joined discussions on issues such as the work schedule, the upcoming work as well as the development of the shoreline and the Champlain Bridge Estacade once the work is completed.

Everyone appreciated the format.

October 2020

The first virtual public meetings on the project to deconstruct the original Champlain Bridge, were held on October 20 and 29, 2020. These meetings were led by the JCCBI team and the NHSL group.

At those meetings, JCCBI and NHSL spokespeople took the opportunity to answer citizen questions about the Champlain Bridge deconstruction project.

JCCBI’s Public Participation Approach


The Corporation has been recognized across Canada and received in October 2020 an honorable mention in the International Association of Public Participation – Canada (IAP2 Canada) ‘’Core Values Awards’’.

This rewards JCCBI’s public participation approach implemented as part of the original Champlain Bridge deconstruction project, which notably enabled nearly 5,000 people to participate in the consultation activities held in 2019.
