Longueuil, September 23, 2021 – The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) is pleased to announce that active mobility enthusiasts will have longer hours to use the Jacques Cartier Bridge’s multipurpose path and sidewalk this winter. Weather permitting, people will be able to use the path and sidewalk 7 days a week, between 5:00 a.m. and 10:30 p.m., which is 90 minutes more per day than last year.

During the first season of winter operations in 2020-2021, people could use the Jacques Cartier Bridge multipurpose path and sidewalk between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m, or for 16 hours a day. For the upcoming winter season, these corridors will instead be open 17.5 hours a day. Between 10:30 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., JCCBI’s teams will perform preventive maintenance to minimize closures during operating hours.

“We are proud to increase our active mobility service during the winter and extend the operating hours of the Jacques Cartier Bridge path and sidewalk by 90 minutes a day. Our first winter season was very successful thanks in part to our effective maintenance and communication protocols along with courteous and safe behaviour adopted by the majority of users. This increased service is fully aligned with our vision for active mobility,” stated Sandra Martel, JCCBI’s Chief Executive Officer.

Last winter, between December 18, 2020, and March 18, 2021, a total of 14,034 trips were recorded on the multipurpose path, with 6,987 trips (49%) by bicycle and 7,049 trips (51%) on foot. This represents an average of 154 trips per day for both business and leisure. The path and sidewalk were closed for maintenance only four times during operating hours.
