The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) is pleased to share the results of its recent survey about the new public artwork that will be installed on the Jacques Cartier Bridge. From September 23 to October 20, 2024, Canadians were invited to have their say about the key inspirations for this new public artwork, which will be a sculpture designed specifically for the South Shore entrance to the Jacques Cartier Bridge that will be installed in 2026.
A total of 1,747 people, 98.4% of whom live in Quebec, answered the survey, which included questions on the theme for the sculpture, the values that should be symbolized in the artwork, and the importance of creating the piece with recycled materials. Below are the results:
1. What theme do you think should inspire the sculpture that will be designed specifically for the South Shore entrance to the Jacques Cartier Bridge?
2. The United Nations Charter enshrines six major values. Which ones would you like to see symbolized in this artwork?
3. In your opinion, how important is it for recycled materials to be included in this artwork?
This new sculpture is part of the redevelopment of the bridge’s South Shore entrance, which began in 2020.
JCCBI will launch a call for proposals to artists in the coming months and will include the results of this survey in the project’s design and selection criteria. A selection committee will evaluate the proposals and make a final choice based on different criteria, including the results of this survey.
JCCBI thanks everyone who took the time to give their opinion about the key inspirations for this piece of public art.
