Today, two senior engineers from The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI), Guillaume Saulnier and Hamza Azekraoui, along with Audrey Atwood, a specialist in sustainable and stakeholder development at JCCBI, gave a talk on deconstructing the original Champlain Bridge in the era of sustainable development to over 180 people and mostly members of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ-Montérégie-Montréal).
This ambitious project to deconstruct the Champlain Bridge poses enormous technical and environmental challenges, as the bridge components must be carefully dismantled to minimize the impact on the environment and the public and to promote the reuse of materials.
While explaining the different deconstruction methods, the speakers shared how leading sustainable development principles, which all engineers should apply throughout the life cycle of their projects, will be incorporated into the deconstruction.
