The last section of the bridge disappears
BackBy spring 2023, the deconstruction of the cantilevered section of the west span disappeared from the view.
This operation consisted of cutting apart nearly 580 components weighing between 2 and 23 tonnes and lowering them onto the jetty using a crane. Depending on the weather, about ten lifting operations were completed per day. During these operations, the final components intended for the Research and Development program and for reuse were recovered by various research entities.

Announcement of the 11 projects confirmed as part of the Canada-wide Material reuse Competition
In April 2023, JCCBI announced the 11 projects confirmed in the Canada-wide Material Reuse Competition, a unique initiative which aims at giving a new life to over 400 leftover steel components from the original Champlain Bridge.

The submissions were reviewed by a committee of experts from the fields of the circular economy, architecture, visual art, urban planning, and industrial design. The feasibility of the projects was then verified by the JCCBI team.

Presentation of three development concepts for Héritage Champlain in 2023
In May 17, JCCBI held a public meeting to present the results of the 2019 consultations which led to three redevelopment concepts for the Héritage Champlain project.
Héritage Champlain aims to leave a public legacy to commemorate this structure. The land that is freed up will lead to the redevelopment of three sites—i.e. the shorelines of Île des Sœurs and Brossard as well as the St. Lawrence Seaway dike—for a total area of seven hectares. The Estacade will also be included as a mobility corridor that ties the project together.
