Launch of the materials reuse competition
BackIn February 2021, JCCBI launched a Canada-wide competition to reuse materials from the original Champlain Bridge.
This competition was part of a circular economy approach through the development of materials using the 4RE approach (reduction, reuse, recycling and recovery, before disposal).

This Material Reuse Competition began with the launch of a Call for Participation that allowed JCCBI to gauge the interest of individuals, companies and organizations in reusing steel components from the bridge in architectural, artistic, commemorative or creative projects.
These projects had to be dedicated to private or public purposes such as construction projects, rehabilitation of public infrastructure, urban planning and ecology.
A submission Guide and a Component Catalogue including technical specifications for the components were available as part of the competition.
