Distribution of 4,000 rivets to the population
BackIn September 2023, JCCBI wanted to mark the end of the deconstruction of the original Champlain Bridge by offering the public the opportunity to obtain a rivet taken from its steel structure likely the most visible and significant portion for people.
Approximately 4,000 rivets were given out to the public at two events held over the weekend on September 9 and 10 in Brossard and on Île des Sœurs.

Deconstruction of the last pier footings and removal of the jetties
By fall 2023, the remaining operations consisted of finalizing the removal of five concrete pier footings on the temporary St. Lawrence Seaway dike and Brossard jetties. While the footings were being deconstructed, the temporary jetties were gradually removed, and the site was restored by NHSL.

End of the major project
In November 2023, the project was completed two months ahead of schedule and within the initial budget of $225.7 million, plus direct costs related to COVID-19 management. Only three complaints were recorded during the 41 months of work. JCCBI achieved its goal to successfully deconstruct the historic original Champlain Bridge through in-depth planning to minimize the impact on the environment and the public, and to promote the recycling and reuse of materials.
