PRESS RELEASE | Deconstruction of the Old Champlain Bridge: Contract Signed

The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) has taken a new step in the deconstruction project of the original Champlain Bridge by signing the design-build contract with Nouvel Horizon St-Laurent G.P.

“We are very pleased to have signed this contract, which caps off a rigorous and transparent procurement process and marks the start of work on this major infrastructure project that will create hundreds of jobs in the coming months,” stated Sandra Martel, Chief Executive Officer, JCCBI. “We can also confirm that the deconstruction work will be done within the project’s global $400-million envelope, and the work will be completed in winter 2024. Since JCCBI prioritizes occupational health and safety, all the sanitary measures required in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic will be implemented on site,” she added.

“The New Horizon St-Laurent Consortium, comprised of Pomerleau and Delsan-A.I.M. is very proud to be part of this project, whose innovative deconstruction methods and environmental preservation measures position it as one of the most unique infrastructure projects in Quebec, ” stated Daniel Lessard, Executive Vice-President – Civil & Infrastructure, Pomerleau, and Lorenzo Rapattoni, Vice-President and General Manager, Delsan-AIM.

The deconstruction work will cost $ 225.7 million, in addition to future direct costs related to the implementation of sanitary measures in the context of a pandemic, the total cost of which will be compiled at the end of the contract.

In addition, JCCBI launched today a new dedicated section on its website with the full details about the project. In coming months, the deconstruction methods and the work schedule will be released. All of this information will be available on our Deconstruction Site page, where visitors can also watch live feeds of the project thanks to cameras set up in the sector.

Meetings will be held in the fall to provide citizens with details about the project, particularly in the Île des Sœurs and Brossard sectors. Information about these meetings can be found on the Citizen Forum page. The public can follow the evolution of the project by subscribing to the newsletter.
