Fall 2020 Internship position at a unionized workplace – 37.5 hrs./week

Hourly pay between $18.50 and $20.50, depending on the candidate’s scholarship and experience

Length of internship: 4 months / exact dates to be confirmed

 

As a manager of important infrastructure, The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (the Corporation) is a federal Crown corporation established in 1978 that is responsible for the Jacques Cartier Bridge, the Champlain Bridge, the Champlain Bridge Ice Control Structure, the Île des Soeurs Bypass Bridge, the federal sections of Bonaventure Expressway and the Honoré Mercier Bridge, as well as the Melocheville Tunnel.

Every day, the Corporation ensures a safe drive for thousands of users by managing, maintaining and repairing this important infrastructure for Greater Montreal. The Corporation also ensures that these critical structures remain safe, fully functional and aesthetically pleasing both today and in the future. It conducts construction, rehabilitation and reinforcement projects on the infrastructure under its responsibility and oversees the operation and maintenance of these structures.

SUMMARY

Reporting directly to a Project Manager, the Project Management Intern is actively involved in monitoring the various deliverables of the project team.

The Project Management Intern also works closely with the Project Coordinator and Project Control Officer (PCO) to reconcile the information needed to properly monitor ongoing activities on the various projects that are under the responsibility of the Director. He also participates in the development of various project management tools.

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers in updating and producing certain documents related to costs, schedules and other documentation related to the management of its projects;
  • Establish professional relations with the Project Control Officer (PCO) and project team members;
  • Provide assistance to project directors and coordinators, including providing relevant information in the preparation of various reports, methods or analysis grids, and monitoring projects;
  • Ensure the application of JCCBI processes and procedures related to project management;
  • Assist project coordinators in performing certain tasks;
  • Visit the works in progress and validate shared information during project meetings;
  • Ensure that the different project registers are up to date;
  • Coordinate activities related to project risk management;
  • Participate in the development of project management processes;
  • Attend project meetings and track deliverables;
  • Read and comment on the monthly progress report on construction and engineering contracts;
  • Assist project coordinators in post-mortem engineering and construction meetings and compile lessons learned;
  • Work closely with the Corporation’s partners;
  • Perform any other job-related tasks and duties.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction engineering in progress (2nd or 3rd year) or Master’s degree in project management in progress;
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in project management that respects the PMI philosophy;
  • Proficiency in written and spoken French, ability to communicate verbally in English;
  • Working knowledge of MS Project, Excel, Access, Word, Outlook;
  • Have an excellent ability to work on a team;
  • Demonstrate initiative and autonomy;
  • Have good organizational skills;
  • Have good time and priority management;
  • Can meet goals and deadlines.
