Equipment Operator, Operations and Maintenance

Temporary unionized position (December 12, 2021 to April 15, 2022, as per

the department’s requirements and weather conditions)

40 hours/week

Schedule: Sunday evening to Friday morning, 9:30 p.m. to 5:45 a.m.

  Hourly pay for 2020: $29.67 (plus night shift bonus)


As a manager of important infrastructure, The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (the Corporation) is a federal Crown corporation established in 1978 that is responsible for the Jacques Cartier Bridge, the original Champlain Bridge, the Champlain Bridge Estacade, the Île des Sœurs Bypass Bridge, the federal sections of the Bonaventure Expressway and the Honoré Mercier Bridge, as well as the Melocheville Tunnel.

The Corporation manages, maintains, and repairs these important Greater Montreal structures to ensure the safe passage of thousands of users every day. The Corporation also ensures that its critical structures remain safe, fully functional and aesthetically pleasing both today and in the future. It carries out construction, repair and reinforcement projects on the infrastructure under its responsibility and oversees the operation and maintenance of these structures.


Reporting to the Superintendent, the selected candidate will actively participate in snow-removal operations on the Jacques Cartier Bridge multipurpose path and sidewalk. You will drive and operate heavy vehicles, special mobile equipment, and other specialized equipment to perform bridge maintenance work and carry out daily tasks related to maintaining and verifying the equipment used.


  • Operate the Corporation’s different equipment to perform various types of work.
  • Carry out “pre-trip inspections” on a daily basis.
  • Ensure the equipment used is working properly.
  • Check for anything out of order and report any malfunctions to the manager in charge.
  • Apply safe work methods and apply the procedures in place.
  • Keep the unit clean and safe.
  • Drive a truck with or without a trailer, as needed.
  • Carry out work at the site with the help of specialized workers.
  • Fill out reports related to your tasks and those of your team.
  • Produce a report for each accident or incident.
  • Carry out all other tasks or responsibilities related to the position.


  • Have a high school diploma (HSD).
  • Three (3) years experience as a skilled worker or in a similar position.
  • Have a valid class 3 driver’s licence.
  • Be a good team player.
  • Adhere to the Corporation’s goals, mission and values.
  • Demonstrate good written and spoken French communication skills.
  • Show initiative.
  • Hold a valid certificate on Health and Safety on Construction Sites (ASP course).
  • WHMIS and STC-101 training must be completed internally.
  • Have excellent manual dexterity, versatility, and experience in this field.


  • Work on high structures and in varying types of weather.
  • Work in an environment with risks (fast-moving traffic on bridges, etc.).
  • Work with different types of personal protective equipment (PPE) according to the procedures in force (harnesses, respiratory masks, etc.).
  • Be available to work outside of your regular hours as needed.
