Your mission
JCCBI is looking for a Technician, Civil Engineering 2 to help fulfill the mission of the Engineering Department which is stated as follows: in collaboration with its stakeholders, our department provides engineering expertise to create an optimal work approach that ensures the Corporation’s structures last, keeps users safe, and helps people get where they need to go.
Main duties
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will help manage engineering contracts, as well as projects. You will support the engineers in charge of engineering contracts when planning work, monitoring work quality, controlling budgets and costs, ensuring schedule compliance, conducting analyses, and processing change orders. You will perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks to help monitor the Corporation’s engineering contracts. You will ensure the quality of consultant services by assessing their performance. You will help develop and implement new tools designed to improve contract and project management activities.
- Support engineers in their tasks by playing an advisory role and providing technical and administrative support, including preparing and revising documents, retrieving information, compiling data, effectively keeping records, and preparing tracking reports, as needed;
- Provide technical expertise (technical and administrative follow-up) to supervise consultant activities and ensure that these are properly executed as per the requirements of their contract reference terms (quality, scope of work, costs, and deadlines) and in collaboration with engineers;
- Help prepare authorization requests for contract modifications (change notices and amendments);
- Inform engineers of any issues and problems and suggest solutions and recommendations;
- Help analyze and calculate various data and statistics regarding the condition of structures and construction projects;
- When requested:
- visit structures to perform diagnostics and surveys.
- make site visits to observe work execution methods and results.
- Help prepare reference terms in order to award contracts to consulting firms;
- Verify and analyze submitted tenders and service offers and prepare tender analysis tables;
- Participate in technical reviews, ensure quality, and track the issuance of reports and tender documents prepared by the consultants;
- Verify payment requests made by consultants;
- Use established work processes and tools and propose measures to optimize the efforts of various internal and external partners and increase work efficiency;
- Participate in a variety of strategic project management committees while providing technical assistance to the project team;
- Work with partners in other corporate departments while contributing to effective cross-departmental collaboration;
- Perform all other related tasks and duties.
Experience and education
- Hold a college diploma in civil engineering;
- Minimum five years of relevant experience in civil engineering, including design experience in the rehabilitation and construction of concrete and steel civil engineering structures;
- Excellent ability to understand and read plans, specifications, and technical drawings;
- Excellent French communication skills (spoken and written), along with a working knowledge of English (spoken and written);
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word and Outlook) as well as AutoCAD software for computer-aided design (CAD);
- Ability to access structures using fixed or mobile devices and a harness, no fear of heights or confined spaces;
- ASP Construction certification;
- Class 5 driver’s license;
- Knowledge of generative AI tools such as Copilot and “prompt engineering”.
Assets
- Experience with consulting engineering firms or firms working in the field of road infrastructure;
- Able to estimate bridge infrastructure and driving surface work;
- Interest in digital tools and new technologies (including artificial intelligence tools) applied to engineering practices.
