Civil Engineering Technician – 2, Engineering Department

Salary 2020 according to years of experience: $ 67 227,03 to $ 85 856,22

As a manager of important infrastructure, The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (the Corporation) is a federal Crown corporation established in 1978 that is responsible for the Jacques Cartier Bridge, the Champlain Bridge Ice Control Structure, the Île des Sœurs Bypass Bridge, the federal sections of Bonaventure Expressway and the Honoré Mercier Bridge, as well as the Melocheville Tunnel.

Every day, the Corporation ensures a safe drive for thousands of users by managing, maintaining, and repairing this important infrastructure for Greater Montreal. The Corporation also ensures that these critical structures remain safe, fully functional, and aesthetically pleasing both today and in the future. It conducts construction, rehabilitation, and reinforcement projects on the infrastructure under its responsibility and oversees the operation and maintenance of these structures.

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director, Engineering, the selected candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of technical tasks related to the design and development of some of the most ambitious engineering, construction and maintenance projects in Canada.

The mission of the Engineering Department is to provide engineering expertise to provide an optimal work approach to make the Corporation’s structures last, keep users safe, and help people get where they need to go.

Your contribution

Reporting to the Director, Engineering Department, the civil engineering technician will support this director as well as the engineers, technicians and clerks of the department to carry out major repair projects. You will also work with all of the Corporation’s employees to provide the appropriate service to users and citizens.

You will have to juggle multiple ongoing assignments, for which you will be responsible for various technical and administrative tasks related to the design and development of engineering, construction and maintenance projects.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In collaboration with the Engineering Department’s engineers, perform technical and administrative follow-up for JCCBI’s consultants to ensure that projects are carried out as per the requirements of the contract reference terms (quality, scope of work, costs, and deadlines).
  • Inform engineers of any issues and problems and suggest solutions and recommendations.
  • Help prepare authorizations for additional services (change orders and amendments).
  • Help engineers with their tasks by playing an advisory role and providing technical and administrative support, including preparing and revising documents, retrieving information, compiling data, effectively keeping records, and preparing tracking reports.
  • Help prepare sketches.
  • Assist engineers by conducting surveys, inspections and site visits.
  • Interact with the Corporation’s various stakeholders.
  • Perform any other job-related tasks and duties.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Have a diploma of college studies in civil engineering.
  • Have at least five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Know how to use the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook) as well as AutoCAD for computer-aided design (CAD).
  • Excellent ability to understand and read plans, specifications and technical drawings.
  • Ability to work at height or in confined spaces.
  • Good communication skills.
  • ASP Construction certification.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken French, ability to communicate verbally in English.
