Civil Engineering Technician – 2, Engineering Department

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager, Engineering Department, the selected candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of technical tasks related to the design and development of some of the most ambitious engineering, construction and maintenance projects in Canada.

Main challenges

The mission of the Engineering Department is to develop knowledge of JCCBI’s structures to efficiently organize repair and development contracts in keeping with sustainable development principles and while providing access to information about the Corporation’s inventory of assets and their current condition.

Your contribution

Reporting to the Director, Engineering Department, the civil engineering technician supports this director as well as the engineers, technicians and clerks of the department in order to carry out major repair projects.

You will also work with all of the Corporation’s employees to provide the appropriate service to users and citizens.

You will have to juggle multiple ongoing assignments, for which you will be responsible for various technical and administrative tasks related to the design and development of engineering, construction and maintenance projects.

You will participate in the required actions to establish technical standards and practices (standard and specific reference terms, standard and specific construction specifications) and establish and maintain information for efficient operational management.

MAIN DUTIES

  • In collaboration with the Engineering Department’s engineers, perform technical and administrative follow-up for JCCBI’s consultants to ensure that projects are carried out as per the requirements of the contract reference terms (quality, scope of work, costs, and deadlines).
  • Inform engineers of any issues and problems and suggest solutions and recommendations.
  • Help prepare authorizations for additional services (change orders and amendments).
  • Help engineers with their tasks by playing an advisory role and providing technical and administrative support, including preparing and revising documents, retrieving information, compiling data, and preparing tracking reports.
  • Help prepare sketches using CAD software.
  • Assist engineers by conducting surveys, inspections and site visits.
  • Interact with various stakeholders in the Corporation’s other departments.
  • Carry out all other tasks or responsibilities related to the position.

REQUIREMENTS  

  • Have a diploma of college studies in civil engineering.
  • Have at least five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Know how to use the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook) as well as AutoCAD for computer-aided design (CAD).
  • Excellent ability to understand and read plans, specifications and technical drawings.
  • Ability to work in high places or confined spaces.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Have ASP certification to work at a construction site.
  • Have a valid class 5 driver’s licence.
  • Have a mastery of written and spoken French and an ability to communicate verbally in English.
