Following an analysis of the report from the pilot winter maintenance project of the Jacques Cartier Bridge multipurpose path. The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) has decided not to keep the path open this winter. Different options for snow removal and deicing products were analyzed and tested. However, to date, no viable and safe solution has been identified that will ensure an acceptable level of risk and keep cyclists safe at all times on this unique path during the winter.
The Jacques Cartier Bridge multipurpose path is unique and has major challenges that, when combined, pose safety risks in the winter.
In the coming months, JCCBI will conduct new studies to mitigate the residual risks identified in relation to the path’s winter operation. JCCBI is working on various projects to enhance its bicycle path network, which is open for nearly 9 months of the year.
