The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) will celebrate Canada Day with a special illumination of the Jacques Cartier Bridge on Sunday, July 1 starting at 9:25 p.m. (dusk). Note that the bridge will not be closed, as traffic patrols will keep traffic flowing in one lane in each direction during the presentation of the 5-minute special capsule that will be broadcast twice each hour, on the half-hour and hour. Traffic will only be reduced to one lane in each direction during the light show.
In recognition of this anniversary of Canadian Confederation, the lights of the bridge core will be red and the public can also take part in the show!
The Jacques Cartier Bridge is the first bridge in the world to be connected to intelligent systems: every night, it displays a special light sequence thanks to smart programming called Living Connections. Whenever someone mentions Montreal on social media, and particularly uses the hashtag #illuminationMTL on Twitter, the bridge takes the pulse of Montreal life and reflects it in the intensity, speed and density of its moving lights. This celebratory night will also include a special programmed light effect, as each tweet will produce a red or white “firework” on the bridge, and thousands of lights will randomly flicker along the structure.
The multipurpose path and sidewalk will stay open.
