Director, Information Technology

SUMMARY

As Director of Information Technology, your role will be to support the Senior Director, Administration. You will be primarily responsible for all business activities related to Information Technology, geomatics, corporate information and data management, in addition to managing the overall processes.

It will also be your responsibility to allocate and mobilize the necessary resources in order to effectively meet delivery times.

You will own the process for the development of applications and systems, including the definition of the project, the preparation of proposals, the cost-benefit analysis, system analysis, design and programming, the integration and deployment of systems, as well as support and maintenance related activities. You will serve as an advisor with upper management with regards to the orientation of different technology strategies, geomatics, data management and retention measures to adopt in order to meet the business needs of the organization.

You will also ensure optimal use of available and evolving technologies. You will be responsible for the design and maintenance of computer programmes in your business areas and to ensure that they are well documented. You are accountable for the security of information systems and the reliability of the data. You will lead the optimization of information technologies and contribute to the corporate strategic planning process, develop a strategic action plan for the department and ensure its implementation with the support of your team. With a clear vision of the future, you are able to anticipate the changes in technology and ensure that the organization retains its leading position. Projects involve participation in multiple areas of expertise.

 

MAIN DUTIES

  • Oversee the development, deployment and implement of systems associated with the business projects of the Department.

  • Manage and coach human resources, and define priorities for your team.

  • Perform required diagnostics, initiate and propose strategies and action plans supporting them, with the collaboration of your team and various stakeholders.

  • Ensure the availability, the use, the maintenance, the security and the development of the IT Infrastructure, including the telecommunications network, computer equipment, information systems, office automation software, Internet services and the central telephone system.

  • Understand high-level business requirements in order to be able to strategically advise the organization on the technological orientations to prioritize.

  • Make effective presentations to senior management and operations managers to keep them abreast of initiatives, evaluation of the performance against stated objectives, future strategic orientations and their impact on the business.

  • Establish and maintain client relationships by acquiring an understanding of their practices, services and objectives.

  • Proceed with the identification and analysis of technical problems, plans, task and solutions.

  • Maintain regular communications both to and from members of the team, stakeholders, internal clients and executive committee, and report on the status of the projects based on the governance previously established. 

  • Participate in the annual business planning exercise by assessing the needs of your department, managing the cost center budget and ensuring the availability of the financial and material resources.

  • Carry out the detailed planning of activities of the project-related approach taking into account the issues, the complexity, the stakeholders and the coordination with other projects.

  • Collaborate to the testing of new configurations, performance and capacity monitoring of the servers and the resolution of problems related to different components.

  • Coordinate the activities of sub-contractors and ensure that the work is being completed in a timely manner and according to the specifications and organizational standards, and within the scope and objective of the project.

  • Carry out any other tasks or responsibilities in relation to this position.


REQUIREMENTS 

  • Hold an undergraduate university degree in Information Technology or in Computer Science; a graduate diploma in Administration or in Operations Management will be considered an asset.

  • Have a minimum of 10 years of experience in the fields of Operations Management (ERP) and Information Technology, including 5 years as the leader of a team responsible for implementing technology.

  • Solid knowledge in the management and operation of a technological infrastructure, information security and telephone system.

  • Experience in coaching and managing technical personnel.

  • Have a thorough understanding of standards, trends, new and future directions, as well as recent developments on information resources.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

  • Knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Access) and MS Project.

  • Be fluent in English and French, both written and spoken.
