Héritage Champlain: Good progress on shoreline development work

The Héritage Champlain project is making great strides! Shoreline development work will continue until December 2025 in all three areas concerned: Île des Sœurs, Dike and Brossard. When the accessible and inspiring living environments created as part of the project officially open in spring 2026, it will mark the return of these spaces to residents following the deconstruction of the original Champlain Bridge.

Héritage Champlain Pathway

Together, these three sites will form the Héritage Champlain Pathway. Amenities will include a belvedere built with materials from the bridge, cozy rest areas, urban furniture, pedestrian paths, and a bike path that will once again allow active mobility users to reach the Dike via the Estacade.

Commemorating the history of the original Champlain Bridge

The original Champlain Bridge will be commemorated by showcasing a row of three piers, with the one located in the middle of the St. Lawrence River taking on a warm white glow at dusk. These symbolic relics will serve as a reminder of the bridge’s location and its once-prominent place in the Montreal cityscape.

Interpretive panels

Interpretive panels will complete the experience by helping visitors appreciate each site’s exceptional biodiversity and the richness of its shoreline environment.
