A competition of popsicle proportions

5 March 2018

The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) is a partner in the PontPop competition, which this year was held on February 23 and 24 at the École de technologie supérieure. The contest pitted high school and CEGEP teams against each other to design tough yet aesthetically pleasing bridges out of popsicle sticks.

Olivier Patry, Engineer, Traffic, and Emmanuelle Hoga, Project Engineer, Engineering, served as judges for the high school and CEGEP portions of the contest, respectively.

JCCBI gave out the prize for the highest load-bearing strength for each category of the competition. The “Pont asymtotique” team from Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf designed a bridge that resisted a load of 3343 kg. The bridge created by the team “La dernière chance” from Cégep régional de Lanaudière resisted a load of 3723 kg.
